Orthopaedic shoes

Orthopaedic shoes are specially designed to correct or support foot problems. They are ideal for people with foot deformities, pain, or specific medical conditions. A medical specialist, such as an orthopaedic surgeon or podiatrist, can determine whether orthopaedic shoes are suitable for you.

  • Orthopaedic shoes are fully custom-made based on a cast or 3D scan of your feet. They provide maximum correction and support.

  • Semi-orthopaedic shoes are ready-made shoes with extra space and adjustment options, suitable for less complex foot problems.

The process includes:

  1. Referral: A medical specialist issues a prescription.

  2. Appointment: You make an appointment with a certified orthopaedic shoemaker.

  3. Measurements: During the appointment, your feet are measured and possibly scanned.

  4. Trial shoe: A trial shoe is made to test the fit.

  5. Final shoe: After approval, the final pair is produced.

Yes, in many cases orthopaedic shoes are (partly) covered by basic health insurance. A statutory personal contribution usually applies. Please check with your health insurer for details on reimbursements and conditions.

At Piedro, we offer a wide range of models for women, men, and children. Our collections combine medical functionality with fashionable design, so you never have to compromise on style.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft brush or cloth to remove dirt.

  • Protection: Treat leather shoes with a suitable care product.

  • Drying: Allow wet shoes to dry at room temperature; avoid direct heat sources.

  • Check-ups: Have your shoes regularly inspected for wear and fit.

Many of our models feature removable footbeds, allowing you to use your own insoles. This provides additional comfort and personalised support.

Delivery times vary:

  • Orthopaedic shoes: On average 6 to 8 weeks after measurement.

  • Semi-orthopaedic shoes: Often available sooner, depending on the model and adjustments required.
